Outlook for Bank holiday weekend Certainly better than the rest of the week and we should see quite a bit of sun in the next few days. Sunday is predicted to be partly sunny with temperatures reaching 17-18C. The winds should be moderate, about 17mph Westerly. High tide is at 14:30 and a Spring (5.8/1/1m)so launch could be a bit tricky with something of a dump on the beach. Monday should be the better day with the sun shining all day and slightly less wind than Sunday, 13mph from the north but veering North Easterly later and easing. Temperatures may reach 18C so quite pleasant. High tide is at 15:01 (5.7/1.3) but with offshore winds the water should be flatter making launch and recovery a bit less challenging. This is the long distance race (only race on Monday) so if you don't sail a cat or high performance boat you may want to pair up with someone. Joanna/Catherine on the galley Sunday with pasta bake on offer, Enchiladas on Monday. See you there |

Megz' Race 5th September Please start thinking about who you are sailing with for Megz' race this year as there are a number of novice sailors in the bug club who are interested in taking part (John has a list of names). Remember, you can only sail with a novice, a lady sailor, a junior or an old age pensioner who must be taking an active role in sailing your boat (single handed boats with passengers are not permitted though single handers with novice helms are). This is the 3rd year we have run the race and I will be putting out a collection box for Chestnut Tree House again. For those of you who don't know, Megz' was our daughter who died suddenly, aged 16,as a result of a nut allergy in 2006. She was an active fund raiser for the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice and we continue this is her memory. Megan was an active member of the club. she loved sailing, windsurfing and surfing and she would have enjoyed this fun race as I hope you all do. |

New SIs - dual sailing courses Starting with the late May series each series race will comprise a dual course - one for dinghies and one for catamarans. The respective courses will be the same except that the windward mark for the catamarans will be a greater distance from the start line compared to the mark for the monohulls. All other marks will be shared as will the start and finish sequence. The monohull windward mark will usually be a large yellow buoy. Catamarans can pass either side of this mark. |
